Recent internal data lists more than $4 billion in land and ranches for sale in Kentucky. The overall size of Kentucky land for sale is appromixately 300,000 acres. Of the 120 counties in Kentucky, Pulaski County had the most rural property and land for sale. There were 652 acres of sold land in Kentucky recorded in January through the Lands of America sales program. This reflects a four percent reduction in sales activity over the month before, with a combined land value of $3 million for all property and land sold in the state. The most land sales in the state last month were located in Adair County. Kentucky gets rugged fast and lives up to its heritage as a hunting and fishing paradise. Hunters can choose from over 80 wildlife management areas as well as the sprawling Daniel Boone National Forest and Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area. Eastern Kentucky is home to the largest elk herd in the eastern United States, while other species include wild turkey, white-tailed deer, and coyote. The state has also been ranked among the ten best states for the cost of living by U.S. News & World Report. In terms of its size, Kentucky is the country's 37th-largest state, covering an area of 40,411 square miles (26 million acres). In its entirety, 39,486 square miles is made up of land, while the remaining 921 square miles is made up of water. Game species to be found on land for sale in Kentucky include whitetail deer, turkey, dove, quail, ducks, and pheasant. Anglers have their choice of catfish and bass.
